Harley New Year!

Happy New Year guys!
This was my submission to the DC Talent Contest for the first issue of the new Harley Quinn book. Basically they gave us a description of one page in the book and asked us to draw the following scenario: Panel 1-Harley in a lightning storm, Panel 2- Harley in a chicken suit surrounded by alligators, Panel 3- Harley tickling inside of a whales mouth, and Panel 4- Harley in a bathtub resigning to kill herself. Here's the exact description of the controversial last panel:

Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of "oh well, guess that’s it for me" and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen.

That last panel kicked up a lot of controversy and so DC actually changed it for the final print. It's now her on a rocket ship or something.

Well anyway, I wanted to let you all know that I am finally joining the 21st Century-blogosphere and switching (or I should say supplementing) to Tumblr. This blog will still be active (semi-active, lets be real), I foresee most new content will be put on Tumblr. I will link it soon!

As always, thanks for taking the time to check out my blog. Have a great new year!

Why So Serious?

Hey everybody!

So DC is doing something pretty insane. They're actually having a talent contest! So basically we submit one drawn page for the new Harley Quinn series. I'm just gonna go for it! We'll see what happens.

I gotta brush up on my Harley Quinn....

Shout out to Arleen Sorkin, THE voice of Harley Quinn.

2013 and Beyond!

Hey everybody! Happy New Year! So 2012 was a pretty good year; made some art, made some new friends, and got some amazing experience in the industry. In fact I can officially go to Comic Con as an "Industry Professional" so its free! haha

Well as good as 2012 was, I have even bigger plans for 2013! Lets go!

So this is a Christmas present for my brother still in progress. Yes, its a Barbarian girl fighting a huge snake...That's exactly what he asked for; those exact words. Oh and he wants it screened on a purple shirt...
This was piece I did for White Matter's VHS Nightmares show. Basically a tribute to B-movies and 80's horror. So ya know, awesome shit. I choose a movie called Primal Rage. Its about a Rage virus that breaks out via baboon at a Florida University and infects a sorority girl, the school reporter, and three raping bros. I was thoroughly entertained.

DRIVE! Ok so these are a few color variations of my previous drawing I did. You can check that out in the previous posts.
Hey, you want a toothpick?

Alrighty guys, believe it or not I am constantly drawing and working on stuff. Speaking of which, remember that secret project I was talking about? Yeah, its still going down and picking up some steam. More details later. Thank you for checking out my blog and I wish everyone an amazing 2013!

Hey, do you want a toothpick?

DRIVE!...DRIVE, DRIVE, DRIVE!! I love this movie! This movie moved me, man. I haven't seen a movie with so much style, yet so much substance to back it up in a long time. I don't know how else to express my admiration for something other then to draw it, so here's my take. I think I'll take it in to color. I like sketching in blue....everything looks better in blue.

I saw the posters for the movie and didn't really feel they captured the spirit of the movie. Especially the DVD cover!  That was god awful.
More blog posts coming soon!

Hi, how are you?

Hey everybody!
Long time no post. Well my mind has just been a little preoccupied for the last couple of months, but I have been drawing! So here's just a few little things I've been up to since my last post. Mostly super heroes, what can I say, I love em'!!! I don't have to justify myself to you! Whatever, whatever! You don't know me! Pssh that's your opinion!

I call this illustration "Hidden in Plain Sight." You know most people think Superman's disguise is ridiculous, but if you really think about it, it's kinda genius.  Think about it. Who would even think that a guy like Superman would even have a secret identity? And in this day and age everyone is so preoccupied with their own music, smart phones, and everything else, who really notices strangers in public. Especially the mild mannered type.

Just the preliminary roughs to a Super Girl sketch for fun. I kinda just start with a basic shape or interesting line and just see where the drawing takes me.

The above sketch refined a little. I made up this costume for the Maid of Might (yes, that is her nickname! haha). I wanted to blend some Super Girl pre New 52, New 52, and Power Girl elements into this one. I don't just love Superman, I love the whole Super family! And yes, that includes Comet the Super Horse....

And back to Superman. I was experimenting with different coloring styles and I actually quite like how this one turned out. Gotta have the underwear bro.

The Dark Knight! Pencils(or should I say digital inks? You know what I mean!) Notice how I forgot to put a Bat signal on his chest. haha
Experimenting with another coloring technique. Didn't really like it. Gave up on this one half way.

I did a couple movie posters just for fun (and I was hoping for a potential show)  of some of my favorite movies.  Trying to capitalize on this whole minimalist movie poster trend. I don't know if it's really me.
Another poster with a different style. It kinda bled into my comic style. I'm always playing around with different styles. Just to keep things interesting. ;P
PS.  If you haven't seen this movie, WATCH IT! So funny and great satire.
Thought I should throw in a thumbnail. Giant starring James Dean. Maybe I'll finish it at some point. I was thinking a vectored, heavy geometric shapes one for this one. We'll see.
This is for a personal project of mine. Still keeping it pretty close to the chest, but I hope to show you more in the future.

This is also for the same project. All I'm going to say is that it's for a graphic novel. More info later, stay tuned!!
Thanks for checking out my blog.

(500) Days of Spider and Hellbound Heroes

Hey Everybody! So it's my first post of the year. Whooo! A lot of things have been brewing and hopefully we'll see where that takes me. But first I'd like to say a big thank you to the good folks at Furious Theatre Company. I just wrapped my first job for them, creating backgrounds and an original graphic novel all based on the stage play NOgoodDEED by Matt Pelfrey. If any of you guys ever read this, I just want to say thank you so much for everything. I am truly humbled and forever indebted to you for taking a chance on me.

Well here are just a few things I've been tinkering with.

This is just for fun. It's my little take on the up and coming Amazing Spiderman movie directed by Marc Webb (HA! Webb...thats too perfect.) also the director of the much swooned over 500 Days of Summer. I think this movies going to be well...amazing. Love the cast, I tried to get as many of them in there as possible (and a few fan favorites :P).
Boy meets Spider. Boy falls into incredible responsibility.  Boy's Uncle gets shot.
I usually don't post things until I'm finished but HEY thats what a blogs for right? Definitely going to finish this one.

So this is a portion of the graphic novel I did for Furious Theatre Company. It's called Hellbound Heroes and its basically about people who were thrown into the spotlight because of a good deed they committed and then buckle under the pressure, eventually becoming super heroes who try to undo good deeds. Still with me? Trust me, it's hilarious.
One soldier is overwhelmed by the pressure of a hero...

I did all the lay-outs, pencils, inks, and colors for this project.
It was 22 pages long and a lot of work, but extremely rewarding.

After her baptism of sorts, Amy Sparks is transformed into Silver Star.

Long story short, they eventually run into this guy.
I've also been retouching some old projects. I did this a couple years ago in a perspective drawing class. Its a psychedelic/ post-apocalyptic concert venue.

No blog entry would be the same with out some nod to Superman.
Red Undies for life!

Aww yes! This is something I'm pretty excited about. It's still a secret, but more info about it will come soon. Definitely in the next 2 weeks. Stylistically its a little different then what I normally do, but its a lot of fun to draw. This is just a little teaser to whet your appetites. hehe...

What could this possibly be?!
Okay so this was kind of a wordy blog entry. Thanks for sticking around and checking this out. I got a busy month ahead of me; going to Wonder-Con in 2 weeks and hopefully to Comic-Con in July to get my portfolio reviewed! See you next time!

What the Stuff is this?!?!

Hey Everybody!
Okay, so its been a while. I know. You don't have to rub it in. Well I just thought I'd just start putting up some old work from this year (mostly) and a few from a while ago. This year has been really great and eventful and I feel like my art is improving. Check it out!! :P

Its Lumpy Space Princess from my new favorite show Adventure Time!
I wanted to see what she'd look like in the real world hehe (sinister laugh)...

And from one Princess to another...This is my redesign of WONDER WOMAN!
If I ruled the universe (well the DC Universe) I would completely overhaul this character and make her
a psychedelic, hippy warrior. Trust me, it'd be awesome.

I really need to work on my possum drawings. Mine just look like rats.

Just a little sneak peek.
This is a character named Silver Star for my internship. More details on this soon.

This is an old poster design I did for the CSUF Artsweek design contest.

This is another poster I submitted for the band Oh No Oh My. Well it was more
like a fan contest. I didn't win that one either. I don't know, I still think it's cool!

And on that note, I think I'll wrap this up. Thanks, as always, for checkin' it out. I'm really going to try to post more. I always say that....
